Midterms are less than 40 days away and illegal immigration polls as a top issue for many voters. The border now gains increased media attention related to the sharp increase in border crossings. When illegal immigrants are asked why they are coming now, they often explain that they know Biden will let them in. The world knows this administration is not serious about border security.
Border security is a national security issue. A country cannot exist without a protected border. There is no such thing as a nation without borders. A nation with a changing border or a border that is weak is a nation that is being invaded. If borders were not important, the Ukrainians would allow Putin to change their borders without a fight.
Our northern border is far more secure which stems from the fact that the Canadians are serious about their border protection. It is much easier to enforce a border when both nations actively try to secure it. Mexico, on the other hand, is content to have an open northern border which could come from the fact that far more people are trying to leave than they are trying to enter. Our side of the border does not have adequate resources to process and stop illegal migrants from entering. The Biden administration has often looked down upon border patrol for doing the job they are there to do-protecting our border.
Professional criminal gangs often cross the border to rob wealthy Californians and then make their way back across the border. They re-enter again a few weeks later and start all over. Fentanyl pours through our border and is a major health risk to all Americans but specifically younger Americans. Parents of younger kids and teenagers should not worry that their child will take illicit fentanyl. With an insecure border, cities and streets are far less safe for our children to be at. Not only is drug trafficking ramping up but so are violent crimes. Three looters were apprehended after hurricane Ian and were found to be illegal immigrants. The story that garnered national attention about a 10-year-old receiving an abortion died down after it was discovered that her rapist is here illegally. We have laws in this country regarding immigration but laws only work as good as they are enforced.
Immigration is a good thing. Our country was founded by people leaving their land and coming to the new world. However, we cannot allow unfettered immigration without having checks on who is entering our country. Not only are drugs and violent criminals coming through the border, but also known terrorists are attempting to cross our border. We cannot allow it to become any easier for a terrorist organization to commit another 9/11. There are legal ways to come to America and while not perfect the law should be followed. In our earlier years, you could not leave Ellis Island and enter the interior without a health check. After experiencing the Coronavirus pandemic we should take action to be vigilant in checking the health of those entering the country but that cannot happen if our border is not secure.
America is the greatest nation in this world and we have so much to offer. Many people dream of one day waking up and realizing they are on American soil. That’s why legal immigrants follow the proper channels. They respect the process and our way of life. They want to have the opportunity to come here legally so they one day can claim American citizenship. They often have to travel by plane since they do not have the privilege of walking across a land border. We should do more to make the process easier for those who respect our laws and country. Former President Barack Obama detailed this more clearly when he said,” We simply cannot allow people to pour into the U.S., undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, lawfully to become immigrants in this country.” He was right. Those who come here illegally should not be able to skip those in line who are waiting to come to this country legally. In the end, allowing unfettered illegal immigration only hurts our border patrol, Americans, and those who are waiting patiently to begin the process of legally coming to America.
